AURORA - Funeral services for John Francis Bayness will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Oelwein. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Bayness, 23, was found early Friday afternoon, Dec. 5, 1997, in a car wash at Fayette, where he had died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
He was born Aug. 25, 1974, in Independence, the son of Rod and Charlene (Hutchison) Bayness. He attended Oelwein schools. John worked for DeKalb in Oelwein and Don Wille Construction in Guttenberg. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein.
Survivors include his parents, Rod and Becky Bayness of Aurora, and Charlene and Dave Wilson of Casa Grande, Ariz.; two brothers, Jeff of Tempe, Ariz., and Jason of Oelwein; a stepsister, Kenda Bronner of Kearney, Mo., a stepbrother, Kody Quandt of Maynard; and grandparents, Anna Mary Bayness of South St. Paul, Minn., and Charles and Georgia Hutchison of Prairie du Chien, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roy. A memorial fund has been established.
