OELWEIN - Funeral services for Alta Rose White of Waterloo, formerly of Oelwein, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. Robert Elam officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Hazleton. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. White, 91, died Monday morning, Aug. 4, 1997, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, after a long illness.
She was born June 27, 1906, in Poplar, Minn., the daughter of Allen and Alice (Betts) Brant. She married Ernest E. White on Jan. 25, 1940, in Independence. He died Dec. 31, 1980. Mrs. White was owner/operator of the Maid Rite restaurant in Oelwein for many years. She also owned a tropical fish store in Oelwein, and was a member of the Moose Lodge. A resident of Oelwein since 1940, she moved to Waterloo in September 1992.
Survivors include six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great -grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Serfling of Hazleton; and two nephews, Kenneth (Leone) Brant of Waterloo (where Alta made her home), and Alfred and Ruth Brant of Raymond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Roy Serfling; three brothers, Glen, Ora and Delbert; and two sisters, Iva and Eva.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
