Sarah I. Mata
OELWEIN - Sarah I. Flax Mata, 83, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Chicago and Oelwein, died of natural causes Tuesday evening, Sept. 30, 1997, in the Sunrise Guest Home at Fredericksburg.
She was buried in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens south of Oelwein. There were no services.
Sarah was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Russian immigrants Max and Celia Markowitz Flax. She was raised in the Chicago area where she worked as a laborer and assembler. She moved to Oelwein in the 1980s and had been a resident at the Sunrise Guest Home for about three years.
She is survived by one sister, Anne Flax of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Xelta Warren.
