STANLEY - Memorial services for Lydia Ada Mahoney will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. Paul C. McManus officiating. Inurnment will be in the Stanley Cemetery. An Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 9 a.m, Saturday, Nov. 1.
Mrs. Mahoney; 92, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, 1997, at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein, after along illness.
She was born Aug. 15, 1905, in Walker, the daughter of John and Frances (Feyerabend) Lala. She graduated from Walker High School in 1923 and then attended Parks Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. On Aug. 28, 1928, she married Carl A. Mahoney at Windum, Minn. Mrs. Mahoney taught rural school, worked as a cosmetologist, was a detasseling foreman for DeKalb, worked at Kinsman's Nursery, prepared meals for the Stanley teachers from 1940 to 1955 and worked at Connor's Department Store. She was also the Stanley town clerk for more than 25 years. She had been a resident of care centers for the past 14 years. Mrs. Mahoney was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein, Eastern Star chapters of Hazleton and Oelwein for 61 years, where she served as Past Worthy Matron, the Oelwein American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighhors of America, and Buchanan County Rural Letter Carriers Association Auxiliary, a past member of Cedar Rapids Moose Lodge, and a Red Cross representative.
Survivors include one son, Clare (Roberta) Mahoney of Oelwein; and one granddaughter, Meera Mahoney of Oelwein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl on Feb. 19, 1989; and two brothers, Edward and Frank Lala.
