OELWEIN - Funeral services for James "B. J." Nelson Moore will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Robert Dagit officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Murphy Church, rural Westgate.
Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, and one hour before services Monday at the church.
Mr. Moore, 69, died Thursday evening, Dec. 4,1997, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a sudden illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Oelwein, the son of James Adelbert and Laura (Guritz) Moore. He attended Oelwein schools. On Dec. 21, 1947, he married Faye Fox at the Baptist Church in Oelwein. Mr. Moore drove coal truck for Knapp Coal Co., then milk truck for Oelwein Milk Co-op for 12 years. He worked 20 years for the City of Oelwein, retiring in December 1989. He attended Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of the Oelwein Fire Department for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife Faye; two daughters, Vicki Akes of Des Moines, and Wendy (Jim) Frentress of Earlham; three sons, Randy (Jane) of Iowa City, Garry (Judy) of Independence, and Marty of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, James Akes, Steffanie Kuper, Ken Kuper, Keoni Kuper, Gary Kuper, Brandon Moore, Rachael Moore, Michele Moore, Bethine Moore, Amber Moore, Heidi Moore and Jenna Moore; two step-grandchildren; Justin and Jordan Frentress; one great-grandchild, Nash Nelson Kuper and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Ruth Ann and Diane Kay; and four half-brothers, John, Warne, Walt and Orvel Smith.
A memorial fund has been established.
