ARLINGTON - John Alvin Phillips, 67, of 7052 D Avenue Arlington, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 8, 1997, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a long illness.
Friends may call from 2 until 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. There will be no public services. Inurnment will be at a later date.
He was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Waterloo, the son of Alvin and Evelyn (Paulus) Phillips. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Phillips was a roofer for Fuller Roof Company of Waterloo for many years. He was an avid bowler in Oelwein and Waterloo and had lived in Arlington the last five years.
Survivors include his daughter, Carla (James) Sackett of Arlington; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Beverly Phillips of Hemet, Calif., and Virginia Henninger of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
