ARLINGTON - Funeral services for Ray G. Bissell will be 11 a.m. Wednesday June 2, at St John Lutheran Church, Arlington, with the Rev. Vernon Fasse officiating. Burial will be in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, and for one hour before services at the church Wednesday.
Mr. Bissell, 93, died Saturday morning, June 28, 1997, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 6, 1903, in Volga City, the son of Edward James and Rozella (Yeager) Bissell. He married Leora M. Wenkstern on July 15, 1925, in Edgewood. The couple moved to Arlington in 1934, where he farmed and did carpenter work for many years, retiring in 1968. He had been a resident of Maple Crest Manor the past two and one-half years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Goodwill Club, both of Arlington.
Survivors include six daughters, Viola Calvert of Northglenn, Colo., Clara Pleis of Fayette, Violet Guyer of Arlington, Lucille Terry of Akron, Ohio, Virginia McGuire of Clermont, Evelyn Bissell of Houston, Texas; four sons, Calvin of Arlington, Raymond of Marion, Earl of Center Point, and Benjamann of McKinock, N.D. 31 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leora, Aug. 14, 1996, one son, Clarence; two grandsons, two great- grandchildren; seven brothers, and three sisters.
