Charlotte 'Lottie' Behrens
OELWEIN - Funeral services for Charlotte "Lottie" Behrens will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Alan Wolkenhauer officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Hazleton.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Floral Hills Chapel Funeral Home, rural Hazleton.
Mrs. Behrens, 89, died of natural causes Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 1997, at the Oelwein Health Care Center.
She was born Dec. 4, 1907, in Uelzen, Germany the daughter of Heinrich Albrecht and Karoline Wilhelmina Emma (Isernhagen) Steinbeck. An orphan before age 10 she lived with her grandfather Isernhagen and an aunt in Bispingen, Germany, where she grew up. She married Louis Otto Behrens of Gross-Lafferde, Germany, on Aug. 22; 1930. In October of that year, the couple immigrated to the United States where Mr. Behrens had a brother in Oelwein and another near Waverly. The couple lived with a Waverly farmer for five years. They then rented farms near Tripoli, Maynard and Arlington buying the latter farm where they lived more than 40 years. In 1985, they retired to Oelwein. Mrs. Behrens moved to the Oelwein Care Center in 1995 to be closer to her husband.
Survivors include her husband, Otto; two sons, Guenther Of St Paul, Minn., and Lorenz of Long Grove; two daughters, Ursula (Dennis) Cordes of Arlington, and Marlys (Ron) Schoephoerster of Waterloo, nine grandson, 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made in her name to Zion Lutheran
Oelwein, and St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington.
