Genevieve Probert, 88, Elgin

Genevieve Rebekah Leonhart Probert, 88, of Elgin, died in her home Sunday, Dec. 3 following a brief illness.

Funeral service was Dec. 6 at Leonard Funeral Home in Elgin, with Pastor Rusty Phillips officiating. Burial was in Wadena City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Charles Chase, Willis Chase, Tim Corkery, Larry Popenhagen, David Adams and Greg Johnson.

Genevieve Leonhart was born Dec. 11, 1917 in Wadena, the sixth of eight children of Peter Leroy "Roy" and Alla (Davis) Leonhart. She graduated from Wadena High School in 1935. She was baptized and became a member of the Wadena Presbyterian Church in 1931. Genevieve also was a member of Highland Goodwill Club and Royal Neighbors.

She was a telephone operator in Wadena for several years before she married L. Dean Probert Feb. 14, 1938 in Oelwein in the Presbyterian manse by Rev. L. W. Hauter. Dean and Genevieve moved to the family farm following their marriage, where they lived for 50 years. Genevieve helped Dean on the farm with chores. They moved to Elgin, where Dean died in 1989. Genevieve then lived with her son. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, eating out, gardening and spending time with family.

Survivors include her son Douglas of Elgin and a sister, Mary Dicy Reisner of Oronoco, Minn. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Vayle, Donald, Woodrow and Derryl Leonhart; and two sisters, Elizabeth Stockwell and Chrystal Welch.
