Fred Schwartz, residing four miles northwest of the city, died Thursday evening and his funeral occurred Saturday at 11 a. m., from the Lutheran church of this city, Rev. Zeilinger officiating.

Fred Schwartz was born in Germany in 1815, and was threfore 87 years of age at the time of his death. He came to America in 1850, and settled in Dubuque county. He came to this vicinity many years ago, and since continued to reside here. Before coming to America he was united in marriage to Miss Thorman who preceded him in death seven years ago. To them were born six children who survive him. He was one of the pioneers of this county and was highly esteemed by many friends. For many years he has been a member of the Lutheran church and died in the Christian faith. The interment was in the Oelwein cemetery and a large concourse of friends and relatives followed him to his last resting place.
