Philip Corwin Stohr was born on October 17, 1915 at Westgate, Iowa, the son of Leo & Edna (Sorge) Stohr. Philip graduated from Sumner High School at Sumner, Iowa in 1933. Philip married Amy Florence Smid on August 26, 1940 at Macon Missouri. He was a lifelong Fayette County resident. Philip taught rural school in Fremont Township for five years and later farmed in the Westgate and Aurora areas for many years. He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. Philip was hightly respected and loved by his community.
He is survived by his wife, Amy of Oelwein, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Janet Stohr of Beaver Creek, Ohio. Three grandchildren: Christine, Philip, and Bobby and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Allen Ray Stohr, brother Wesley Stohr and sister, Arlene Steffen.
Philip C. Stohr died on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein after a long illness. He was an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt pheasant and deer and ice fishing. When he retired from farming he would drive to Westgate and help Roger Decker as farming was still in his blood. He dearly loved to play cards and bingo. He was an excellent player and good sportsman.
This very quiet man was so loved that he will be greatly missed by many people. With a tear, we bid farewell.
