George Watenpaugh was born in Cattaraugus County, N.Y., Sept. 15, 1818 and departed this life at his
home in Maynard, Jan. 9,1904.
He was united in marriage with Florinda B. Crandall on the 22nd of December, 1847, with
whom he shared the joy and sorrows of life until
her death six months ago. Eight children were born to this union: four boys and four girls,
Delos, Orlando, Mrs. Ellen Beckner, John, Eva,
Olive, Mrs. Delia Donat, and William,deceased.
All of the children, except Delos, who was sick
in California, were with the father in his last
illness.
Mr. Watenpaugh came to Iowa in 1853 settling in
Fayette County where he has lived ever since with
the exceptin of three years in Bremer County.
Mr. Watenpaugh was converted in 1852, united with
the M.E. Church in 1857, of which he has been a
faithful and true member ever since.
He is survived by two brothers, seven children,
twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Funeral services wee held from the
M.E. church of Maynard, Monday, January 11, at
one o'clock, conducted by the pastor, F.G.Young.
The time worn body was laid to rest in Center
Grove cemetery, Maynard.
