Died - At his home in this city on Monday evening about eight o'clock, Mr. Samuel Smith, after several weeks illness. The deceased was born in England, where he resided until 1869, when he emigrated to this country and came directly to Iowa, purchasing a farm in this township, where he resided until a few months ago, when himself and family became Oelwein residents. He leaves a wife and six children, Mrs. George Schneider, Mrs. E. E. Day, Thomas, Richard, Sarah and Nellie, all residents of this place. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church yesterday forenoon, being conducted by Rev. Robertson, he using as text the words: "Be ye also ready, for ye know not the day or hour when the Son of Man cometh." There was a large attendance of acquaintances and friends as well as members of the A. O. U. W., of which order he was one of the charter members here, and under whose auspices the services were conducted at the cemetery.
