Services Set for Mrs. F. Kennedy
Mrs. Francis J. Anna (Nan) Kennedy, 79, died yesterday morning at Holy Family Hospital. Her parents were John and Mary Ford. She was born May 30, 1891, at Gilmore City.As a young girl she moved with her family to the Cylinder and Emmetsburg area and received her education in the Emmetsburg schools. She graduated from the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and taught school in Graettinger and Estherville.
On Nov. 24, 1915, she married Francis J. Kennedy at Emmetsburg and they made their home in Estherville.
She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America and Altar and Rosary Society. She was very active in all civic and community affairs. Her husband was a well-known attorney in Estherville. He died March 3, 1956 [1966].
Survivors are three daughters, Margaret, Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Robert (Marian) Vernon, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Robert (Jean) Brown, Iowa City; 19 grandchildren; one brother, Father Leo Kelm, Sioux City; and a sister, Sister Agnes Marie Kelm, BVM, West Hempstead, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, James; her parents; one brother, Thomas; and one sister, Mrs. John Nolan.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with her brother, Father Leo Kelm, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
There will be a Rosary Friday at 8 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers are all grandsons, Robert Vernon Jr., Samuel Vernon, James Brown, Thomas Brown, Steven Brown and Michael Brown. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 10, 1970)
