James E. Kennedy, 30, County Attorney-Elect in Emmet, Died Sunday
James E. Kennedy, 30, chosen at the November election as Emmet county attorney, died Sunday[December 19, 1954] night in St. Joseph’s Mercy hospital in Sioux City.

He became ill shortly after election and his condition rapidly became worse. Surgery Friday revealed a malignant brain tumor.

Mr. Kennedy was a young Estherville attorney, active in community affairs and a decorated war veteran. He is survived by his widow and four small children. He was born and raised in Estherville and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Kennedy of Estherville. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, December 23, 1954)

County Attorney- Elect of Emmet County Dies
Sioux City, Ia. – Emmet County attorney-elect, James Kennedy, died today in a Sioux City hospital.

Kennedy, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Kennedy of Estherville underwent surgery Friday for a malignant tumor.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at Estherville with burial at Spencer. (Mt. Pleasant News, Mount Pleasant, IA, December 20, 1954)

James Kennedy, 30, of Estherville, brother-in-law of Mrs. Jerry Mueller of Carroll, died of a brain tumor Sunday night at a hospital in Sioux City. He had been ill one month.

Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at Estherville. Burial will be at Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Mueller are leaving Tuesday to attend the rites.

Mr. Kennedy, who was associated with his father, Francis Kennedy, in the law firm of Kennedy & Kennedy at Estherville, had been elected county attorney of Emmet County Nov. 2.

He was a graduate of Notre Dame University and the law school of the State University of Iowa.

His wife, a sister of Mrs. Mueller, is the former Peggy Cornwall of Spencer.

Surviving with his wife are four small children, his parents, and three sisters.

Mr. Kennedy had been active in the Young Democratic Organization of Iowa.
