Nathan B. Peterson was born in Bondhead, Canada, on the 21st day of August, 1837, and departed this life January 1st at the home of his son, Charles E. Peterson, in Minneapolis, being 82 years, 4months and 11 days of age at the time of his death. He came with his parents to Illinois in the years 1850. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in the 144th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. In 1869 he was united in marrage to Miss Mary Randall at Savana, Ill., and to this union three children were born, as follows: Mrs. Mattie Barnes, of Windom, Minn., Mrs. Ethel E. Evert, of Chicago, Ill., and Charles E. Peterson, of Minneapolis, Minn. Besides the children left to mourn the departure of a kind and loving father, there are four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; also one sister, Mrs. Marie Quaife, of Traverse City, Michigan, and one brother, Sol. A. Peterson, of Nashua, Iowa, and a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends and old neighbors in this vicinity where he had lived for about 38 years. The remains were brought to this city and buried beside his dear wife who died twelve years ago. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 14, 1920)
