PIONEER RESIDENT HAS PASSED TO HER REWARD

Dorcas Cronk was born at Kingston, Canada, May 11, 1846 and died at Armstrong, Iowa, June 23 1924, in the 79th year of her age. She emigrated to Humboldt, Iowa, and was married to Richard Horswell in March 1870. From there they came to Armstrong Grove in March, 1873, and took up a homestead where they resided until the death of her husband on August 4, 1915, after which she made her home with her son, Lincoln, in Armstrong, until her death.

Ten children came to bless her home, nine of whom survive to mourn the departure of their mother. Mrs. Geo. Canon, Mrs. J.V. Law, Garfield and Lincoln,of Amstrong, Walter R. of Terrill, Iowa; Mrs J.E. Johnson, of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. E. W. Laisy, of Gill, S.D.; Blaine, of Grattinger, Ia.; and Blanche, of St. Paul, Minnesota. One daughter, Mrs. Frances A. Pendleton, passed away December 22, 1905. There also remain 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Horswell was a faithful member of the Methodist church for 54 years being one of the charter members when the Armstrong church was organized and built in 1893. She always had a large place in every good enterprise that has helped to build up this community. She was a faithful wife, a good mother, a kind neighbor and true friend. She was known and loved by a wide circle of friends and neighbors who will miss her example and influence. Her spirit has gone to be with the just.

Funeral services were in charge of Dr. F.P. Quick, at the Methodist church, Tuesday, June 24, at 2:30 p.m. The sermon was from the text found in Rev. 14-13, "Blessed are the Dead, Who Die in the Lord, They Rest From their Labors and Their Works do Follow Them." Rev. C.W. Sutton of the Free Methodist church, an old time friend and pastor also spoke. Three hymns were rendered in a most exquisite manner by a mixed quartet composed of A.J. Bosworth, Miss Helen Quick, Mrs Ed. Knowles, Ed. Helgason, with Miss Bessie Vandenburgh at the piano. The hymns were "Nearer My God to Thee," "Asleep in Jesus," and "Sweet By and By."

Interment was made in the Armstrong burial park.
