FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES IN MINNEAPOLIS
Mrs. Julia Halvorson will be buried here
Mrs. Julia Halvorson, former Estherville resident, died this week at the Ebenezer old people's home in Minneapolis where she has been living. Her body was brought by train to Estherville where funeral will be held and where she will be buried.
Mrs. Halvorson was born in Wisconsin on March 1, 1865. Her parents were Rier and Marit Rierson.
Came Here in 1860
She came to Estherville late in 1860 with her parents and was confirmed in the local Norwegian Lutheran church Oct. 26, 1879. She was baptized in the Lutheran church by the Rev. Nils Brandt.
On Oct. 11, 1886, she was married to Thomas Halvorson. They farmed in Emmet County after their marriage and lived in Ryan Lake community.
Later they moved to Estherville and in 1898 they moved to Thorsby, Ala. After two years they returned to Estherville where they lived until a few years ago when Mrs. Halvorson fell on the ice and broke her hip, an accident from which she never recovered. The couple moved to Minneapolis after this where they lived in the Ebenezer home for old people. Mr. Halvorson died May 27, 1942.
Funeral to Be Here
Two daughters preceded Mrs. Halvorson in death. One died in infancy and the other, Mabel Halvorson, died in 1921. Two sons are living. Harry Halvorson lives in Chicago and has three children, Joan, Harry, Jr., and Reed. The other son, Alvin, lives in Los Angeles.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Mahlum and Anderson chapel and at 1:30 at the Norwegian Lutheran church with the Rev. L. A. Mathre conducting the services. Burial will be in the Norwegian cemetery north of town.
