ESTHERVILLE, Iowa -- Services for Clarence J. Gilbert, 95, of Estherville will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville, with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3388 and American Legion #91 of Estherville. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville.

Clarence Julius Gilbert, the son of Gilbert H. and Randina (Mickelson) Gilbert was born February 28, 1909 in Petersburg Township near Jackson, Minnesota. He passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 95.

Clarence graduated from Petersburg High School in 1929. He served during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He served in the Invasion of North Africa and the Invasion of Normandy in the Army 9th Infantry Division. Clarence was awarded the Bronze Star.

On September 27, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Lorraine Wilhour at the Lutheran Church in Jackson, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Estherville area their entire life. Clarence was employed by Golden Sun in Estherville for 29 years. He retired in 1974. Marjorie passed away July 21, 1985.

Clarence was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 3388 in Estherville.

Left to cherish Clarence's memory are his daughters, Jeanette Getting and her husband, Jerry of Youngstown, Ohio; Gloria Busch and her husband, Dennis of Ringsted, Iowa; son-in-law, John Jacobsen of Estherville; sister-in-law, Bonnie Kaltved of Estherville; grandchildren, Julia Hoerner, Jody Coy and her husband, Buddy, Jason Getting and his wife, Heather, Jennelle Getting and her friend, Danny Falcon, Marcus Busch, Brent Busch, Eric Busch, Jackie Ferguson, Randy Jacobsen, and his wife Diane, Christine Carlyle, Robin Jacobsen, Donell Weatherby, Lorie Jacobsen, Leslie Jacobsen; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He has been preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Francine Jacobsen, brothers, Olaf, Howard and Gilmore, sisters, Mable Gilbert, Nora DeMayo and Alvina Lankford.
