John Fletcher Passes Away
Long Illness is Fatal
John Fletcher of Estherville died at 7:20 p.m. yesterday in a hospital at Cherokee, where he had been receiving care.He is survived by four children, Mrs. G.A. Elwood, Ward and James of Estherville, and Mrs. Violet Fletcher Kjas of Winona, Minn.
He has lived in Estherville since the death of his wife, in 1918. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 6, 1935)

Funeral Services Held Monday at Estherville Lutheran Church
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for John R. Fletcher, 58, who died Friday morning at the state hospital in Cherokee, where he has been confined for the past three years. Services were held at 1:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Hibness and at the Estherville Lutheran church at 2:30. The Rev. L.A. Mathre officiated. Burial was at the state line Lutheran church cemetery.Mr. Fletcher was born March 7, 1877, at Lawler and came to Estherville with his parents when a small child. He lived in this community practically his whole life with the exception of 12 years in Tracy, Minn. In 1901 he was united in marriage to Anna Lonning and to this union six children were born.
Mrs. Fletcher and two children, Marie 15 years old, and Warner, 18 months old, died in 1918 during the influenza epidemic. Mr. Fletcher is survived by two daughters, Mrs. G.M. Elwood of Estherville and Mrs., E.S. Kjas of Winona, Minn., and two sons, Ward W. and James R. of Estherville. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 9, 1935)
