Illness Proves Fatal to Mrs. C.R. Kurtz, 47
Mother of 8 Children, Three Sons in Service
Mrs. C.R. Kurtz, 47, of Estherville died at 2:20 a.m. today at the Coleman hospital where she was a patient. Mrs. Kurtz underwent a serious operation Monday morning at the hospital and had been a critical condition since that time. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.Esther Augusta Renz was born Aug. 16, 1896, at Sparta, Wis., in Monroe county. She received her education in the Sparta schools and on March 8, 1917, was united in marriage to Clarence R. Kurtz at Estherville, where they have lived since.
Active in Organizations
Mrs. Kurtz was past president of the Roosevelt P.T.A., a member of the United Service women, of the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Episcopal church, the Degree of Honor, and Rebekah Lodge No. 155 of Estherville. She was a Past Noble Grand and Past District President of the Rebekah Lodge.Mrs. Kurtz is survived by her husband, Clarence Raymond Kurtz, and eight children, Raymond LaVerne, petty office 1-c of the United States navy, who is somewhere with the Pacific fleet; Kenneth Dewitt of the United States army; Lloyd Norman of the air corps; Cleo Mavis, Clarence Lilburn, Esther Marie, Karyl Louise, and Larry Eugene, all of Estherville. One daughter, Wilma Jean, preceded her mother in death.

Mrs. Kurtz also is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William C. Rentz of Sparta, Wis., three sisters, Hattie Harmon of Sparta, Wis., Mrs. A.E. Glading of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Bert Cary of Highwood, Ill., and six brothers, Walter Renz of Libertyville; August Rentz of Kenosha, Wis.; Hugo Rentz of Bangor, Wis.; Leo Rentz of Juneau, Alaska; Frederick Renz and William Rentz of Sparta.Funeral services have not been arranged pending arrival of relatives. Father Donald F. Haviland will officiate at the funeral. Burial will be made at Oak Hill cemetery. Requiem mass will be said at 10 o’clock on the morning of the funeral.
Pall bearers will be Vern Tredway, Roy Bassett, Burt Swanson, Clarence Mulock, Albert Heywood and George Schryver. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 1943)
Funeral Rites of Mrs. Kurtz To Be Monday
Two Sons in Service Are Home and Third Expected
Funeral services for Mrs. C.R. Kurtz will be held Monday. Requiem holy communion will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Episcopal church. The burial office will be read at 2:30 p.m. in the Presbyterian church. Father Donald F. Haviland of the Episcopal church will officiate. Burial will be made in the Oak Hill cemetery.Mrs. Kurtz died early Wednesday morning after undergoing an operation Monday at the Coleman hospital. She is survived by her husband and eight children, three of whom are in the service. Kenneth Kurtz of the United States army arrived yesterday morning, and Petty Officer 1-c Raymond Kurtz arrived yesterday afternoon. Lloyd Kurtz, who is in the air corps, is expected home within the next two days. He is coming from California.
Mrs. Kurtz is also survived by her parents, three sisters and six brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 8, 1943)
