Longtime City Resident Dies in Texas
Mrs. C.W. Jones, longtime Estherville resident, died today at 8 a.m. at a hospital owned and operated by her son, Dr. B.W. Jones, in Mineola, Tex. Mrs. Jones who had been in failing health for many years, had lived with her son and daughter-in-law since February, 1958. Immediate cause of death was attributed to flu and pneumonia.Mrs. Jones and her husband, the late C.W. Jones, made a trip to Mineola two years ago, planning to spend the winter months there. Mr. Jones became ill and died there on March 9, 1958 and Mrs. Jones continued to make her home there because of her failing health.
Born July 15, 1878 a Sandwich, Ill., she was the daughter of William and Ellen Hansen and moved when just a young girl with her family to Dickens in Clay County. She attended grade and high school in the Clay County schools and later taught school in this area.
After her marriage on Nov. 23, 1899 to C.W. Jones, the couple farmed near Dickens most of the time until 1919 when they retired from farming and moved to Estherville where Mr. Jones was employed by the Rock Island until his retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Jones observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1949.
Mrs. Jones was a member of First Methodist church and a charter member of the Estherville Service Star Legion.
Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons, L.L. Jones of this city, Dr. B.W. Jones of Mineola, Tex., and one daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Ina) Tow of Jackson, Minn.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. John Taylor of Dickens and Olive Hansen of Des Moines; three brothers, Walter Hansen, Spencer; George Hansen, Spirit Lake; Harry Hansen who is in a nursing home in Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews, one of whom, Irene Taylor, made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Jones for more than 11 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, one grandson, and one great grandson and her parents.
B.A. Parrish of Mineola, Tex., is accompanying the body of Mrs. Jones to Manly where it is to be met tomorrow night and brought here by Sternberg-Reese. Funeral Home representatives. Dr. Jones is driving to Estherville, accompanied by J.W. Underwood of Mineola. They plan to stop at Springfield, Mo., where they will be joined by the Rev. Herbert Marsh, who will officiate at the funeral services, tentatively set for Friday afternoon.
