Armstrong – Services for William Edwin Mitchell, 86, Armstrong, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Armstrong with the Rev. John Spicer officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Monday, April 23, 1984 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home at Armstrong after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Mitchell was born April 30, 1897 in Hardin County Iowa, the son of John W. and Ida (Burgess) Mitchell. He attended grade school in Hardin County. On Jan. 17, 1938, he was united with Lucille F. Ersham in Estherville. He farmed in the Armstrong and Ringsted area and has lived in Armstrong since 1937. He worked for the railroad and the city for several years. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Armstrong.
Survivors include three sons: Edwin R. and Donald G. Mitchell, Armstrong and David L. Mitchell, Emmetsburg; one daughter, Rose M. O’Dell, Richmond, Mo.; six grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd, Ringsted; sisters: Mrs. Dan (Carmey) Conn, Estherville, Loretta Eckholm, Emmetsburg and Lorene (Polly) Marker, Sherburn, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1978, an infant son; brother Howard and a sister Lillie Rainey. (Estherville Daily news, Estherville, IA, April 24, 1984)
