Elysian, Minn. – Services for Howard John Mitchell, 71, Elysian, Minn., formerly of the Estherville-Armstrong area, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, with the Rev. Travis Cannaday officiating. Burial was in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell passed away Thursday, March 2, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mankato, Minn.

He was born April 22, 1906 at Eldora to John and Ida (Burgess) Mitchell and received his education in the Emmetsburg schools. March 15, 1948 he married Dorothy Sherman at Fairmont, Minn. The couple lived in the Estherville-Armstrong area until moving to Elysian, where they had farmed for the past 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Roger, James and Howard Jr., all of Elysian, and Michael, St. Cloud, Minn.; six daughters, Helene and Lorraine Mitchell, both of Mankato, Mrs. James Teepe, Oelwien, Mrs. Gary Nisson, Wallingford, Wanda Mitchell, Elysian, and Mrs. Randy Rux, Waseca, Minn.; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Elliott, Ames, Mrs. Dan (Carmey) Conn, Estherville, Mrs. Wilbur (Lorraine) Marker, Sherburn, and Mrs. Loretta Eckholm, Armstrong; and two brothers, W.E. Mitchell, Armstrong, and Lloyd Mitchell, Estherville.
