Armstrong – Services for Lena Mitchell, 88, who died Tuesday, April 25, 1989 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong with Rev. Marshall Monthei officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong on Thursday from 3:30 until 9:00 p.m.

Lena Agnes Mitchell was born on December 5, 1900 to Herman and Anna (Nelson) Kinnander at Marseille, Ill. She was educated in the Marseilles and Armstrong, Iowa schools. On July 1, 1919 she married William B. Mitchell in Estherville. The couple farmed northwest of Armstrong until 1967 when they retired and moved into Armstrong. Mr. Mitchell died on May 27, 1985. Mrs. Mitchell was a resident of the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong at the time of her death. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Armstrong and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include two sons: Harold Mitchell of Goshen, ind. and Robert Mitchell of Grapevine, Texas; three sisters: Gladys Axell of Indiana, Evelyn Johnson of Florida and Lorene Stevens of Florida; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five stillborn children. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 27, 1989)
