Two Armstrong Men Injured in Crash
Early – James R. Laffey, 45 and Bill Mitchell, 85, both of Armstrong, were seriously injured in a car-truck accident 2 ½ miles south of here 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the junction of highways 20 and 71.

Laffey has been transferred to the University of Nebraska hospital at Omaha, Neb. with multiple head and chest injuries. Mitchell is in a Sac City hospital with compound fractures of both legs and ankles plus head injuries.

According to Iowa Highway Patrolman John Bensley, who investigated the accident, Laffey was the driver of a car heading west on Highway 20 and he apparently ran a stop sign and his vehicle ran underneath a straight truck driven by Gene Barber, Odebolt. The truck was headed south on 71 but was in the process of turning left from 71 onto 20. Barber was not injured.

Charges in connection with the accident are pending, added Bensley. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 28, 1975)
