Last Rites For Donald E. Meyer Held Thursday
Armstrong Boy Dies at Davenport
Armstrong, Aug. 5 – Funeral services were held Thursday [July 31, 1930] afternoon in the Presbyterian church for Donald Edward Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Meyer, who died the previous Monday [July 28, 1930] at Forest Park Sanitarium in Davenport. The services Thursday were conducted by the Rev. C.B. Mitchell of the Methodist Church and burial was in Armstrong cemetery.

Donald Edward Meyer was born May 16, 1907, at Maple Hill and his home had always been with his parents, living in several communities where his father was engaged in business. He attended the Goodell high school for three years and the high school in Armstrong one year, graduating with the class of 1925. He was greatly interested in athletic activities of the school and his desire was to fit himself for a school coach.

He was injured five years ago while working in his father’s elevator. Donald had an unselfish disposition, always thoughtful of others and especially to his mother. At the age of 12 years he was baptized and received into the Congregational church at Parkersburg. This was done of his own free will. He was always interested in the reading of his Bible.

Donald had been at the sanitarium but a few weeks and was apparently getting better with their treatments, until Saturday afternoon when he became seriously ill, passing away Monday at 11 a.m. He leaves to mourn his death, his father and mother of Armstrong, one sister, Mrs. Bethel Scheil, of Sioux City; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Herich, and a large number of other relatives. One sister passed away ten years ago. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1930)
