Services for Keith M. [Marion] McKean, 73, of Armstrong will be held Wednesday [September 21, 1994] at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Armstrong with Rev. Mary Shultz officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Friday, September 16, 1994, at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Armstrong is in charge of arrangements.
He was born January 6, 1921 in Fairmont the son of Charles and Emma (Steele) McKean and received his education in rural Kossuth County schools and graduated from Seneca High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to the Armstrong area. On December 23, 1961 he married Esther (Horswell) Willson at Armstrong. He was employed for twenty-one years by John Morrell and Company in Estherville until it closed. He then worked with his brother-in-law, Richard Peton, in construction until retiring in 1988. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of VFW Post 5232 and Odd Fellows Lodge in Armstrong.
Survivors include two daughters, Gean Work of Armstrong and Marlys Masterson and husband, Jack of Las Cruces, NM; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Merton McKean and wife, Betty of Goldfield, IA and Russell McKean and wife, Maxine of Ceylon, MN; five sisters, Joyce Peton and husband, Richard of Estherville; Margola McKean of Kent, WA; Gertrude Jensen and husband, Calvin of Armstrong; Dorothy Helgason and husband, Harry of Crocker, MO; thirty-two grand nieces and nephews and two great grand-nieces.
Mr. McKean was preceded in death by his wife June 12, 1986, and his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 21, 1994)
