Raymond McKean
Armstrong – Services for Raymond Medford McKean, 83, of the Armstrong and Maple Hill area, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First United Presbyterian Church in Armstrong with Rev. C. Ken Wever officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Tuesday at Rosewood Manor.

Friends may call at the Estherville Chapel of the Henry and Olson Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and at the church in Armstrong from noon til time of services on Thursday. He died Tuesday at Rosewood Manor.

McKean was born June 6, 1899 at Maple Hill, the son of James G. and Hester I. (Shaw) McKean. He attended country schools. On March 26, 1924 he was united in marriage to Mabel Persels at Osceola. He farmed near Maple Hill until he retired in 1972 when he moved into Armstrong. McKean was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, a past president of the Maple Hill school board and a past member of the county board of education.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel, Estherville; one son, Raymond Lowell McKean, Marengo; three daughters: Mrs. James (Fern) Kuhn, Pamona, Calif., Mrs. Ivan (Doris) Stoner, Des Moines, Mrs. John (Miriam) O’Connell, Sycamore, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed McKean, Estherville; two sisters: Mrs. Chris (Ruth) Jespersen and Mrs. Kenneth (Esther) Ayers, Bradenton Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 30, 1983)
