Mrs. G. McKean dies; services to be Friday
Mrs. George (Mae) McKean, 72, Estherville, died at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday [May 4, 1971] at Holy Family Hospital from a lingering illness.She was born Oct. 7, 1898, at Denmark, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. James Berkholder [Burkholder]. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to the Dolliver area.
She was married on Sept. 20, 1917, to George McKean at Washington, Ia. They farmed in the Maple Hill area. Mr. McKean died in 1959. After his death, she moved to Estherville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one son, Ralph, Ceylon, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Selmar (Lois) Matre, Estherville; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three brothers, Carl Berkholder, Waterloo; Ben Berkholder, Pocahontas, Ark.; and Don Berkholder, Libertyville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, her parents, three sisters and four brothers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery, at Armstrong.
Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home anytime on Thursday until noon on Friday when the body will lie in state at the church.
Pallbearers are Lawrence Evans, Howard Johnson, Ralph Miller, Russell Miller, Gale W. (Bill) Miller and Ronald Olson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1971)
