Thomas C. McKean of Gruver Dies
Thomas Clyde (Bill) McKean, 51, Gruver barber for many years, died suddenly yesterday at 7:30 in the Veterans Hospital at Sioux Falls, S.D. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Mr. McKean had been in poor health for the past year and entered the hospital Dec. 26 for examination and treatment. His condition was thought to be much improved and it was hoped that he would be able to return home in the near future, possibly this weekend.

Born July 1, 1908 near Maple Hill, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James G. McKean. He attended grade school and high school in Maple Hill before entering a barber college.

He was married March 31, 1935 to Georgia Bergeson in the home of her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George Bergeson, who lived north of Gruver. Mr. and Mrs. McKean had spent most of their married life in Gruver where he operated the pool hall and barber shop.

Mr. McKean had served as a member of the town council. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Dennis; two daughters, Laura and Marilyn, all at home; four brothers, Charles A. McKean of Armstrong, Raymond L. and Mack A., both of Maple Hill; Edwin L. of Estherville; and two sisters, Mrs. Chris (Ruth) Jespersen and Mrs. Kenneth (Esther) Ayers, both of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George McKean.

Funeral services are to be held Saturday in Gruver Presbyterian Church, a family service at 12:45 p.m. followed by 2 p.m. service for the public, the Rev. L. E. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery.
