Pioneer Lady Dies Monday
Mrs. H.K. Holland, 82, Resided at Armstrong
Armstrong, March 15 – Mrs. H.K. [Helen A. MacCourt] Holland passed away at her home here Monday night at 11 o’clock after an illness of 2 ˝ years. Although not confined to her bed all the time she was unable to walk. Just recently gangrene set in one of her feet which caused her death.

Mrs. Holland was born in Edenburgh, Scotland in 1851. At the age of four, she came to America with her parents and grew to womanhood in Jefferson county, Wis. On October 18, 1872 Mrs. Holland journeyed by team to Algona, to meet his bride. There they were united in marriage. Their wedding journey was a trip home. They settled shortly afterwards on the place now known as the Harvey Felkey farm northwest of Armstrong. In 1907 they moved to the town of Armstrong and have since made this their home. She leaves beside her husband, four sons, Harry of Hastings, Minn., Stanley of Milwaukee, Wis., Albert and Percy of Bode and four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Boots, of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Margaret Brocks [Brooks] of Charles City, Mrs. Agnes Flier and Miss Adelaide Holland of Armstrong.

Last October 18 they observed their 60th wedding anniversary. All their family were with them for the day. The first time they had been with their parents for 10 years, when they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Bailey was in charge. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 16, 1933)

Mrs. H.K. Holland, 81, a resident of Emmet County for over sixty years, died at her home in Armstrong Mar. 13, 1933. She had been an invalid for several years but the direct cause of her death was gangrene poisoning in her foot. Those who with the children survive are the eight children, Mrs. Thos. E. Brooks, Charles City, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie Boots, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Henry Flier, Armstrong; S.L. Holland, Hastings, Minn.; Albert Holland and Percy Holland, Bode; and Adelaide Holland at home. One son, Alfred M. died in infancy. There are also eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, also two brothers, David McCout [McCourt], St. Paul, MInn., and Robert McCourt, Portland, Oregon. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon. Rev. Arthur G. Bailey of Estherville had charge of the service. Vocal music was furnished by Margaret Vandenburgh. Burial was in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 22, 1933)
