ARMSTRONG, Iowa - Services for Donald Looft, 76, of Armstrong will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Looft died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Armstrong. Henry-Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, is in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 16, 2009)

Donald Loren Looft the son of Peter and Edna (Godfredson) Looft was born March 6, 1933 in Burt, Iowa and departed this life on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 76.

Donald received his education in Armstrong schools graduating in 1953.

Don served in the United States Navy from 1954 - 1958. On November 26, 1955, Don was united in marriage to LaVerne Spriesterbach at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norwalk, California. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Walnut, California where Don was employed at Kayner Manufacturing. In 1970, the couple moved back to Iowa where Don worked at Weigh-Tronix until 1998. He refereed different sporting activities for 25 years. Don was currently employed part-time at Arts-Way. Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends and most important was following his family at all of their activities. He loved his Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeye's and his A-R Mustangs receiving the A-R Fan of the year award in 2007. Don was an avid sprint car fan and made annual trips to Knoxville to the National Sprint Car Races. Don received an award from the Iowa High School Association for his years of service as a sport official. Mrs. Looft passed away January 10, 2008.

Donald was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Armstrong where he served as an elder. He was a past and present Armstrong-Ringsted School Board Member. Don was also a member of the Armstrong VFW.

Left to cherish Donald's memory are his children, Lorrie Looft; Anna Kingswan; Loren Looft; Dean Looft all of Armstrong; six grandchildren, Kristina Tindall and her husband, Bruce; D.J. Looft; Dylan Looft; Dena Looft; Drew Kingswan; Allison Kingswan; great grandchildren, John, Kaitlin and Kimberly Tindall; sisters, Harriett Von Bank of Sherburn, Minnesota; LaVon Kastner of Winnebago, Minnesota sisters-in-law, Gertrude Carmichael and Avis Wiley and her husband, Bill all of North Augusta, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He has been preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Cody Michael Looft; two brothers; one sister; five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law, and his mother and father-in-law.
