Nicholas E. Looft Dies in Armstrong
Nicholas E. Looft, 78, lifetime resident of Armstrong and Bancroft areas, died yesterday at 5 p.m. at the Turner Nursing Home. In failing health for the past 16 years, his death was attributed to complications of advanced age.

Nicholas Earnest Looft was born July 2, 1887, at Bancroft, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Looft. He received his education in the Bancroft schools.

He was married March 20, 1912, to Lizzie Nissen at LuVerne, Iowa, and after their marriage the couple farmed near Bancroft for several years. In 1926 they retired from the farm and moved to Swea City were Mr. Looft operated a meat market.

Three years later they moved to Armstrong and from that time until his retirement in 1947, Mr. Looft owned and operated a meat market there. After his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Looft continued to live in Armstrong. Mrs. Looft died Sept. 14, 1964.

He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, formerly a member of the Masonic Lodge, a past member of the Armstrong Board of Education and a former city councilman.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Effner Opsal of Armstrong; four sons, Howard and Randal, both of Spokan, Wash., Leon of Armstrong and Robert of Ames; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Fred Rasmussen of Renwick, Mrs. Anna Reimers of Burt, Minnie and Amanda Looft of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Mathew Monson of Northfield, Minn.; three brothers, Peter Looft of Armstrong, Frank of Fairmont and Harry of Madrid.

Funeral services will be Sunday with a family service at 2 p.m. at the church hall of Nazareth Lutheran Church and public services at 2:30 p.m. in the church chapel, Rev. Carl Klein officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home Saturday morning until Sunday noon. The body will be taken then to the church where friends may call there, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, Estherville, IA, December 30, 1965)
