Early Settler of Armstrong Dies of Heart Failure
George W. [Washington] Lytle, an early settler of the Armstrong community, died Saturday at five o’clock of heart trouble. He was 68 years old and lived near Armstrong since 1898. He was born at Eldora on August 12, 1860 and lived there until 30 years old. He then moved to Forest City, later to Armstrong. On August 13, 1892 he was married to Miss Olive Tipton. Five daughters were born to this union. One died in infancy but the other four and the widow survive. The children are Mrs. Cora Gibbons, Mrs. Nona Link, Mrs. Geo. Peterson and miss Georgie Lytle all of Gary, South Dakota, one sister, Mrs. Joe Fuller of San Juan, Texas, and one grandchild Lloyd Gibbons also mourn the passing of this estimable man.Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock from the Methodist church at Armstrong and interment made in the Armstrong cemetery. Armstrong Resident Died Last Saturday
Armstrong, June 12 – George W. Lytle, son of William and Hulda Lytle was born at Eldora Iowa, Aug. 12, 1860, and died June 9, 1928, of heart trouble at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 27 days. In 1890 Mr. Lytle moved near Forest City and was united in marriage to Olive Tipton, Aug. 13, 1892. In 1895 he united with the Baptist church at Forest City. He moved to this community in 1898 and transferred his membership to the M.E. church of Armstrong in 1900.Five daughters were born to this union, one dying in infancy. The wife and four daughters, Mrs. Cora Gibbons, Mrs. Nona Link, Mrs. Hazel Peterson, and Georgia Lytle, also one grandson, Lloyd Gibbons. Two brothers, John and William Lytle, of Gary, S.D., one sister, Mrs. Fuller of San Juan, Texas, and one aunt, Mrs. Miles Sabin of Armstrong, with a number of other relatives and friends are left to mourn his death. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2 oclock and interment was made in the cemetery west of town. Mr. Lytle had always been an active member in the church and community. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, June 13, 1928)
