Mrs. Garfield Horswell Dies; Rites Set
Armstrong – Mrs. Garfield (Anna Mary) Horswell, 72, died at 5:30 a.m. today at the Schmidke Rest Home, Ceylon, Minn., of complications of old age. She had been in failing health for the past five years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church in Armstrong, the Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating. Interment will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Slaba Funeral Home from Tuesday afternoon until the time of services.

Mrs. Horswell was born March 23, 1889, in Cylinder, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wegner. She received her education in Armstrong schools. She was married to Garfield Horswell March 27, 1907, in Armstrong. The couple farmed in the Armstrong area until Mr. Horswell’s retirement in 1947, at which time they moved to town.

Mrs. Horswell was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Methodist Church, WSCS and the church choir.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Esther) Wilson of Armstrong and Mrs. Lee (Bernice) Blum of Estherville, a son, Harold of Maple Hill, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Frank Shaw of Washington, Ohio, and two brothers, Paul and Frank Wegner of Armstrong.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 22, 1961)
