Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Heckman, who have been away six weeks on an auto trip to the west coast, have started home from Hollywood, Cal., and expect to take the southern route home. While in Hollywood they received a message from Armstrong, Ia., saying that their niece, Mrs. Byrd Horswrell had been given four blood transfusions and was in a fair condition. Mrs. Horswell, the former Gladys Pray of Anita, has been ill several months following major surgery. (Atlantic News Telegraph, Atlantic, IA, September 25, 1947)

Anita – Mrs. Thorl Robison, of Des Moines; Mrs. M.H. Funk of Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Robison, Mrs. Charles Robison, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Heckman, Mrs. Wilbur Heckman, Jr., and Mrs. Thomas Bailey attended the funeral services at the Armstrong First Methodist church Monday afternoon for Mrs. Gladys Horswell, 45, who died Saturday at the Holy Family hospital in Emmetsburg [Estherville], following a long illness.Gladys Pray was born August 16, 1902, at Anita and left here a number of years ago following her marriage to Byrl Horswell, former coach in Anita high school. She is survived by her husband, one son, Vic Linn; one daughter, Ann; her mother, Mrs. Carrie Pray, all of Armstrong. Mrs. Pray made her home with her daughter. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Fred Case, of Monterey Park, Cal., and a brother, Garnett Pray, of Montevideo, Minn. (Atlantic News Telegraph, Atlantic, IA, November 5, 1947)
