Estherville Woman, 85, Dies Here
Mrs. Johanna Sampson, 85, a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday from infirmities of advanced. She had been in failing health for five years.

She was born Sept. 7, 1881, to Hans and Leva Lilland at Jewell. She received her education at Jewell and was married to Martin Sampson Oct. 25, 1906, at Jewell.

Following their marriage they farmed near Huxley until 1922 when they moved to a farm near Armstrong where they farmed until 1945 before moving to Estherville. Mr. Sampson preceded her in death in September, 1956.

Mrs. Sampson was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

She is survived by four sons, Harold of Dolliver, and Lloyd, Milford, and Orville of Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Irene) Butterfield of Dolliver, Mrs. Ray (Edna) Larson of Armstrong, and Mrs. Norman (Wilma) Nelsen of Ringsted; 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ed Stanerson of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers.

Family services will be held at the Estherville Lutheran Church chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday with public services following at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Roy Hendrickson will officiate.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Friday until noon Saturday. Burial will be at East Side Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Sampson, Maynard Sampson, John Butterfield, David Sampson, Roger Larson, James Larson, Gary Nelsen and Craig Nelsen. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 9, 1967)
