Estherville – Services for Verna Mae (Mrs.Milford) Sampson, 68, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Mark Jollivette officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died Saturday, June 23, 1984 at St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisc.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Verna Mae Peitersen was born May 27, 1915 in Ringsted, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Carrie Peiterson. She received her education in the Ringsted schools. She worked for the Ringsted Dispatch before her marriage. On January 20, 1940 she was united in marriage to Milford Sampson in Ringsted. They farmed for ten years in the Ringsted, Swea City and Terril areas before moving to Estherville, where they have lived since 1950. She worked as a cook at the Skyline Club, Peoples Café, Staffords, and the Casa Loma before retiring six years ago. She was a member of the Miriam Circle of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville.

Survivors include her husband, Milford, of Estherville, three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Judy) Higgins, Dunnell, Minn.; Mrs. Brian (Joann) Williams, Graettinger; Mrs. Bob (Jean) Grems, Estherville; two sons; David Sampson of Maplewood, Minn.; Steve Sampson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; four brothers: Manno Peiterson, Kenneth Peiterson and Earl Peiterson, all of Ringsted, and Arnold Peiterson of Redwing, Minn.; four sisters: Mrs. Elnora Peterson, Rockwell, Iowa; Mrs. Ken (Elvira) McManus, Robbinsdale, Minn.; Mrs. Frank (Jeanette) Young, LaCrosse, Wis. and Mrs. Wayne (Edna) McKay of Ringsted.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 25, 1984)
