Area Driver Killed in Car Crash
Armstrong – Clifford Leroy Larsen, 26, was fatally injured in a one-car crash two miles north of the state line on Highway 44 earlier Sunday morning.

Larsen died in a Fairmont hospital shortly after arrival there. Authorities speculate that the man fell asleep at the wheel of his car and lost control of the vehicle which caromed down the ditch until hitting cross road.

The vehicle ended up on the other side of the intersecting road.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Larsen, Clifford Leroy was born Nov. 18, 1935. He attended rural elementary schools and was graduated from Armstrong High school in 1955.

After serving two years with the Army in Germany, he had farmed with his father near Armstrong. He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran church.

Larsen is survived by a sister Marilyn of Council Bluffs and a brother, Roger, of Armstrong as well as his parents. A brother Rollend preceded him in death.

Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Nazareth Lutheran church here. The Rev. Stanley Hansen of Ringsted will officiate at that service and a family ritual at the Larsen home at 1:30.

Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Slaba Funeral Home here today. Tomorrow the body will be taken to the Larsen home to lie in state until the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1961)
