Joe Laffey, 70, Armstrong, Dies
Joe Laffey of Armstrong, about 70, died this morning at his home there. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home in Armstrong. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 20, 1967)Rites Monday for Joseph Laffey, 64
Joseph Franklin Laffey, 64, Armstrong, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Valley View Nursing Home in Armstrong from cancer.Mr. Laffey was born in Emmet County Feb. 20, 1903, to Mr. and Mrs. John Laffey. He was educated in rural Dolliver schools. He married Nellie Verbrugge at Estherville July 6, 1925. He lived his entire life in Emmet County and worked as an electrician. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Armstrong.
Survivors are his estranged wife, Nellie, Armstrong; seven sons, Warren, Donald, James and Raymond, all of Armstrong; Duane, Wuediti, Calif., Robert, Sacramento, Calif., and Jerry, Onawa; 16 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Byrll Horswell, Fairmont, Minn., Mrs. John Pritchard, Mrs. Richard Mountain, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Florence Jackims, Oakland, Calif.; and two brothers, Floyd, Knoxviille, and Linus, Wichita, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Family service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home, Armstrong. Public services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church, Armstrong, with Rev. Herman Smith officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong-Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Saturday and until noon Monday. Pallbearers will be Glen Neugent, Thomas Kinnander, W.A. Mitchell, W.V. Mitchell, Henry Walders, and Calvin Porter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 21, 1967)
