Heart Attack Fatal to Farmhand
Armstrong – Raymond Bertram Laatz, 56, a farmhand for many years in the Armstrong area, died unexpectedly yesterday of a heart attack at the home of his sister, Mrs. Earl Cronk. He had been in apparent good health until he suffered the attack.

Mr. Laatz was born Feb. 27, 1904 in Grand Ridge, Ill., the son of John and Margarett [Herman] Laatz. He was educated in the rural schools of the Armstrong area. He worked as a farmhand in the area and most recently was making his home and working at the Earl Cronk farm.

Mr. Laatz was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. He served overseas in 1942 and 1943 in North Africa. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Earl (Lena) Cronk.

Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Slaba Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Tappmeyer of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home from Saturday evening until time of services on Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 8, 1962)
