Estherville – Services for Fred Nissen Krough, 92, of Estherville, 92, of Estherville, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery at Armstrong. He died Monday at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born Oct. 30, 1905 at North Platte, Neb., the son of John and Orpha L. (Overmeire) Krough. As a boy he moved to the Humboldt area and later to Mable Hill area with his family where he attended country schools. On Oct. 8, 1930, he was united in marriage with Marjorie Speicher at Algona. They farmed in Emmet County until 1964. He then worked for Linde Implement in Swea City. The couple became managers of the Emmet County Farm and remained for 13 years. Following their retirement they made their home in Estherville. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville.
Survivors include sons: George of Denver, Colo., Ronald, Santa Ana, Calif., Ralph, Deming, NM, Roger, Houston, Texas; daughters: Mrs. Charles (Mary) Allen, Huntsville, Ala. and Mrs. Terry (Diane) Smith, Savoy, Ill.; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren and brother, Ernie Krough, Emmetsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie who died May 12, 1989; two sons; one grandchild, parents, three brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 12, 1998)
