Mrs. Anna Kinnander Dies at 90
Mrs. Anna Kinnander, 90, died Friday [August 6, 1965] afternoon at Holy Family Hospital.Death was attributed to complications resulting from a hip fracture suffered five weeks ago.
Public funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, Rev. Carl G. Klein officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home in Armstrong, 6-10 p.m. today; noon-10 p.m., Sunday; and Monday until 1 p.m. when the casket will be taken to the church to lie in state until the 1:30 p.m. family services.
Mrs. Kinnander was born April 14, 1875, in Snorastad, Sweden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Hoganson [per husband’s obituary, maiden name was Anna Neilson]. She came to the United States with her parents in 1891 and married Herman Kinnander in Marseilles, Ill., Dec. 24, 1892.
The couple farmed northwest of Armstrong 1909-11, before moving back to Marseille for three years. In 1914 they moved to a farm in the Armstrong area where they lived until moving to Armstrong in 1940 upon their retirement.
She was baptized in the Lutheran church in Sweden.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Mabel) Smith, Mrs. Gladys Axell, Mrs. Byrdie Tuichi and Mrs. Addis (Evelyn) Johnson of Gary, Ind., Mrs. W.B. (Lena) Mitchell of Armstrong and Mrs. Frank Stevens of Cedar Lake, Ind.; two sons, Henry and Clarence of Armstrong; one sister in Sweden; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, one brother and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1965)
