Last Rites Held for Herman Kinnander, 83
Funeral services for Herman Kinnander, 83, a long-time resident of the Armstrong community, were held Wednesday afternoon at Nazareth Lutheran church. The Rev. Harlan Blockhus was in charge of the services. Interment was made in Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Mr. Kinnander died Sunday, Feb. 6, 1955, at his home following a lingering illness. He had been bedfast for the past year.

Herman Louis Kinnander was born Nov. 3, 1871, at Stavanger, Norway, and at the age of nine years he came with his parents, Frank and Bertha Benson Kinnander to America. He grew to manhood at Marseilles, Ill.

He was united in marriage to Anna Neilson Dec. 24, 1892, and nine children were born to this union. They lived a Marseilles, Ill., until 1908 when they moved to a farm five miles northwest of Armstrong. They lived there until 1940 when they retired and moved into town.

Mr. and Mrs. Kinnander celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last Christmas eve.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Henry and Clarence of Armstrong, six daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Mabel) Smith of Walkerton, Ind., Mrs. W.B. (Lena) Mitchell of Armstrong, Mrs. C.R. (Gladys) Axell of Gary, Ind., Mrs. C. (Byrdie) Turchi of Marseilles, Ill., Mrs. A.L. (Evelyn) Johnson of Gary, Ind., and Mrs. Frank (Lorene) Stevens of Cedar Lake, Ind.; also one brother, Frank Kinnander of Mascoutah, Ill., 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Edward, two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1955)
