Mrs. Edna Mary Kirk, 74, Is Dead
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Mary Kirk, 74, lifetime Armstrong resident, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Armstrong Methodist Church in Armstrong; the Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Family services will precede the public services, and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the J.A. Huff home in Armstrong.Mrs. Kirk died Sunday [August 9, 1964] morning at 7:10 in Holy Family Hospital of cancer. She had been hospitalized since June 9.
Edna Mary Kirk was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Dutton in Armstrong on Nov. 11, 1889. She received her schooling and a high school diploma in the Armstrong schools. She attended the State College of Iowa at Cedar Falls and then taught many years at Armstrong and Halfa.
She was married to Harry C. Kirk on June 2, 1920, in Armstrong.
Mrs. Kirk was a member of the Methodist Church in Armstrong, of the Okamapado chapter of the DAR in Estherville and was a charter member of the Estherville Historical Society.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J.A. Huff, Armstrong; and Mrs. H.B. Atwood, Sherman, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband and three sisters.
Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home from 3 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday, when she will be taken to lie in state at the Armstrong Methodist Church until the time of family services. The casket will not be opened after the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 10, 1964)
