Armstrong – Services for Theodore (Ted) L. [Leroy] Johnson, 83, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marshall Monthei officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1987 at McKennon Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born April 23, 1904 at Marseilles, Ill., the son of George and Cecilia Johnson. The family moved to a farm north of Armstrong in 1905 and he attended Country School in the Armstrong area. In 1925 he quit farming and started building roads in the area. On June 17, 1933 he was united in marriage with Leona Blekfeld. He started working for Emmet County road building and worked until 1949 when he became an independent construction contractor. He served on the Emmet County Board of Supervisors from 1960-1974.
Johnson was a member of the United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens and past member of Kiwanis.
Survivors include his wife Leona, Armstrong; two sons: Richard, Missouri Valley and Jerry, Cortez, Colo.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one brother Dr. Harry Johnson, Sunnyvale, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 22, 1987)
