Dies at Home of Daughter
Armstrong – Last rites for Herbert W. [William] Wolf, 72, longtime Armstrong resident, who died Friday at the home of his daughter, Ethel Wolf, in Castro Valley, Calif., are to be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Armstrong. The body is being flown today to Minneapolis where Slaba Funeral Home representatives will meet the plane and bring the body to Armstrong. [Per California Death Index, born in Ohio and died December 28, 1962, in Alameda County, CA.]

Funeral services are to be at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon and until time of services Wednesday.

Mr. Wolf had been in failing health for the past six months. His death was attributed to cancer.

He was born April 29, 1890 in Indiana but while a young boy moved with his family to Hebron, N.D., where he received his education.

Mr. Wolf was married to Ruth Ammons on Dec. 28, 1915 at Brookings, S.D. The couple moved to Armstrong in 1924 where for 14 years Mr. Wolf was employed as an engineer at Central States Light and Power Company. He afterwards worked as a mechanic at the Ed Pape garage and the John Deere Implement Company. In 1958, he retired from active work and later had part-time employment at Art’s Way Manufacturing Co.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Armstrong, the Masonic lodge and Order of Eastern Star.

Mr. Wolf is survived by his wife, one son, Wayne of Belmond; two daughters, Ethel Wolf of Castro Valley, Calif., and Mrs. R.V. Schoentrup of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Adolph Lutz, Escalon, Calif., and Mrs. Henry Bellman, Lodi, Calif.; and one brother, Dr. Carl Wolf of Miami, Fla.

He was preceded in death by three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1962)
