Duane Widdel
Fenton – Services for Duane Widdel, 71, of Fenton will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Steve Schultz officiating. Interment will be held at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Fenton. He died September 11, 1993 at the Kossuth County Hospital in Algona.

Visitation will be Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Fenton from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Military graveside rites by American Legion Post #0627 of Fenton and VFW Post #5232 of Armstrong will be held.

He was born October 6, 1921, the son of Walter and Helen (Wessel) Widdel in Fenton. He received his education in the Fenton schools, graduating from high school in 1939. He married Geraldine Opsal on April 22, 1943 at Laredo, Tex. He later married Ruta Rehbergaite Finnestad on December 10, 1978 at Fenton.

He spent most of his life in the Fenton area. He served during World War II with the Army Air Corp. He was a car salesman most of his life. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #0627 and a life long member of the VFW Post #5232 of Armstrong.

He is survived by his wife Ruta, Fenton, one son Gary Widdle of Savage, Minn.; one daughter, Patricia Rohfeld of Willoughby, Ohio; one step-son, Ronne Finestad, Fenton; six step-daughters, Barbra Adams of Algona, Ingrid Henry of Algona, Monika Godfredsen of Van Meter, Vickie Gochenour of Missouri Valley, Debbie Luedtke of Des Moines and Mary Radig of Des Moines; one grandson; seventeen step-granddaughters; three step-grandsons; nine step-granddaughters and one step-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Geraldine in 1978) and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 13, 1993)
