Dr. Archie Whitlow Dies at Age 76
Dr. Archie Whitlow, 76, retired Armstrong veterinarian, died about midnight last night at his home in Armstrong, Iowa. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Dr. Whitlow had suffered from a heart ailment for the past 10 years.

Archie Whitlow was born February 14, 1891, at Hudgins, KY; the son of William and Ruth Ellen Vaughn Whitlow. After his elementary and high school education, he graduated from the McKellit Veterinary College.

He was married February 14, 1920, to Caroline Bailey at Algona, IA. After their marriage, Dr. and Mrs. Whitlow lived for four years in Lakota where he had established his practice as a veterinarian. In 1924 they moved to Swea City, where he practiced for 10 years before moving to Armstrong in 1934. He practiced for 31 years before his retirement.

Dr. Whitlow was a member of the Armstrong School Board for 16 years, 15 years of which he served as board president. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was baptized in the Baptist church in Easton, IL.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, William of Des Moines and Robert at home; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Rose Ellen) Coyle of Minneapolis, Mrs. William (Cathryn) Seeger of State Center, and Mrs. Don (Carol) Boyle of Iowa City; one sister, Mrs. [Herman] Bradia Sandman of Peoria; and two brothers, Claude of Good Hope, Ill., and Rue of Kilbourne, Ill.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist church, Armstrong, IA; Rev. Herman Smith officiating. Burial will be the in Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home after noon Wednesday until noon Thursday, at which time the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 5, 1967)
